In my culture I can say, we're really raised to be independent and have our siblings dependent on us as kids. For example , at 9 , my sister was born and when she became a toddler , she became my responsibility , and my baby brother too. I was the oldest in the house with 2 toddlers and a border 1 year younger than me. So I fed them, washes dishes, cleaned the house , helped with homework if I could , bathed them, brushed their teeth , potty trained them, etc... my parents were there too, but they were busy at work. Later in life , they became my parents responsibility, as I had school, exams , jobs of my own, a life of my own etc... But recently I've spent 2 years in a ministry in Haiti where there are lots of children , and I spent a lot of time with those children there , doing the same things I did for my siblings. I love kids , I do. They can be a lot, for sure , but the way they grow up and who they spend time around is very important. I've been through some hardships in life with my parents leaving such a huge responsibility to me as a child and other personal things but it showed me that I want to raise my kids (when I have kids of my own) differently and in a healthy way. And I feel like staying close with children can teach me about so many more things in life about development in children and humans in general. Teach you empathy, patience, gain love, and trust.
