Tips for buying our first baby crib?

My baby is on his way in a few months and I am debating about cribs! My sister wants to give me her kiddo's crib and nothing is wrong with it, but it's just a Graco crib that she bought from Target a few years ago. I don't know if there's a huge difference. I've seen some that are excessively expensive!

If you are on a budget, the Graco ones will do just fine. My older kids used these when they were little and they worked great. If you aren't then I would definitely say to look into the Babyletto. It converts into multiple bed types so that you can just adjust when it's time to change bed type. 0 Likes

The convertible ones are nice because you are placing a future investment into the bed so you won't have to worry about buying new ones as your kiddo ages. But they are VERY pricey. You can always check Amazon for the best reviews and look for something up to your standard that is in your price range. 0 Likes

It's adorable to pass down baby furniture within the family. As long as the crib is in great condition and there aren't any recalls, I'd use it and purchase different bedding to personalize it. Graco makes sturdy baby furniture (from my experience). If you decide to purchase something new, you can also try Baby Depot (located inside of Burlington Coat Factory). 0 Likes

It's fine to get a hand me down from family, as long as the safety of the crib is there. All baby cribs made after 2011 are required to meet U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission standard; for example the manufacture date needs to be printed on the crib so you can actually check it. It's illegal to sell any cribs that are not up to the new standards. Also keep an eye out for any crib recalls, there's this really informative site you can do that on called Keeping Babies Safe for more info. 0 Likes
