My 5 month old has been having a lot of diaper rash lately because the weather has been really hot. I have been using the diaper creams but it's not helping as much as I would like. And I feel so horrible because it looks like it's really painful! What are some tips for relieving the irritation?

Looks for zinc oxide or petroleum on the ingredient list of creams or powders. And avoid any of the steroid creams (unless your dr. specifically prescribes it) that they sell at the drug stores that have hydrocortisone in them, these can irritate more if your baby is sensitive. 0 LikesTraci posted August 9, 2019
After each bowel movement, try to change your baby right away and carry a spritz bottle with you (if you are out) and clean the area with some water and completely dry off before putting another diaper on. Instead of rubbing area, just gently wipe and pat dry. You can always let your baby go without a diaper for a little bit after each diaper change... just to air it out a bit! 0 LikesTracey posted August 12, 2019
We were changing diapers often like 8 times a day! Thoroughly clean and pat dry / air-dry the diaper area at each changing. And then apply a thick layer of a zinc oxide diaper rash treatment. And make sure diaper isn't fastened too tight. If the rash is persistent though I'd definitely recommend seeing your doctor. 0 LikesMaureen posted August 13, 2019
Diaper rashes are very painful for little ones, especially if they have a wet diaper as that further causes irritation and discomfort. I have always used Vaseline brand petroleum jelly. It helps clear diaper rashes when babies are changed immediately and cleaned properly. Also, avoid using soaps with perfume. If the diaper rash is bad, try Desitin “creamy”, it’s much more smooth, easier to wipe when changing your baby’s diaper and easy to apply. 0 LikesCynthia posted August 20, 2019
For me I like changing my diaper babies at least every 2 hours or as needed and it really depends on what brand of diapers the parent uses, too. Cheaper diapers need to be changed more often. 0 LikesVerlinda posted September 10, 2019
Check disper every 30-45 minutes. Once you know the child's schedule then you can alter the time. But until then every 30-45 minutes log it down so you have reference to fall back on 0 LikesLillian posted September 11, 2019
The best thing to clear up a diaper rash is an ointment with zink and follow with corn starch. The corn starch used in cooking. Use plenty of it, this will help to keep the ointment on the skin longer and keep it dry. Take the diaper of 4 times a day so the skin can be dry. 0 LikesGabriela posted February 5, 2020
I do a mix of plain Greek yogurt and corn starch and make a paste and add it it works wonderfully 0 Likes
