Shamaiah L.
To whom it may concern,
I am writing to express my interest in the current open position. I am graduate from the University of Illinois at Chicago where I received a bachelor’s of arts in communication with a focus in human development and disability studies. I am looking to pursue a new full time opportunity. I believe that the nature of my previous studies and my past career experience has prepared me for a position such as this one. I feel I am suitable for this role as I have a great deal of experience in the customer service, administrative and marketing/communication field. I consider myself to be a friendly, effective and enthusiastic worker. I believe I would be the ideal candidate based on the fact that I am eager to learn new skills to better suit this role and further my career. I am very keen to work for such an ambitious company.
In terms of childcare, I have a lot of volunteer experience. I grew up with a mom who is a preschool teacher and a brother with special needs and a dream to work with children. As soon as I was old enough I was always volunteering in schools anyway I could. Starting in high school I was a member of Future Teachers of America. During that time, I spent an hour and a half each day as a reading resource assistant. There I helped children do homework, reading and phonics and helped those struggling to keep up to speed. I also worked as a classroom assistant in a second-grade classroom with Mrs. Deb Lehman for four years. There I did anything and everything in the classroom. My duties included lesson plan help, teaching help, homework help, classroom assistance and really helping anyway I could. Since Mrs. Lehman knew I wanted to be an educator she really helped prep me. Then in college, I volunteered at Mercer County Head Start anytime I came home. I volunteered in classroom and did administrative work when needed. As a member of the Alpha Sigma Tau sorority I also volunteered in CPS schools to help with after school homework and reading assistance to children in after school programs. I also became an employee of Right at School as an afterschool educator. There I helped children K-8th with snack time, outdoor time and activities, their weekly lesson and daily craft, homework and assisted with pickup and drop off. I am also a certified registered behavior technician where I have gained further experience caring for children with autism using ABA methods. In my most recent role as an assistant lead teacher I worked in a classroom with 18-20 3 and 4 year old children where we created a classroom environment geared towards motor development, social skills growth and educational advancement. I hope this gives you a little insight to my passion of working with children.
