My daughter’s first birthday is almost here and I’m starting to wonder whether or not it’s appropriate to share photos of her on my social media. Most of it is public because I had never cared much about the privacy of my own photos before. It’s mostly just my friends who follow me I think. Most of my friends post pictures of their families. Do you think it’s okay to post photos of my children on social media, especially if the accounts are public?

I think it’s fine to post pictures, as long as they’re not pictures your child might be upset about you posting when they’re older, but why do your accounts need to be public? I wouldn’t want strangers looking at photos of my kids - but that’s just me I guess. 1 LikeCamila posted September 12, 2019
It’s not fair to post photos of your child online. You’re supposed to be protecting them, and right now they’re not really old enough to make those decisions for themselves, so it’s up to you to protect their privacy. I can’t tell you what to do. They’re your kids, not mine. But I think it’s something you should think very seriously about. 0 LikesMaureen posted September 12, 2019
These days, we have to be careful where we post pictures of our little ones and be mindful of they types of pictures we post. There are so many predators online and once those pictures are uploaded to any social media site, they are out there! I personally refrained from posting any photo's until my children were much older, even then I am very selective about the pictures. Also check the background of photos, make sure they don't display your address or your child's school name. 0 LikesClaire posted September 17, 2019
I'm currently using Instagram for the grandparents to see what my child is up to. But the account is private. 0 LikesDiane posted September 24, 2019
Definitely a NO I have a closed FB page to post pictures for my parents and families. 0 LikesBrianne posted September 24, 2019
I personally think it’s fine as long as you are very careful not to have address or location on anything. It’s your babies and you love them! It’s only natural to want to post your littles. 1 LikeSimone posted September 25, 2019
I'm very wary about letting random people have access to my kids photos online too. I only have a private FB account with my family members and friends, so we can share photos together as I live abroad. 0 LikesLeah posted September 29, 2019
I am a bit old fashion and a private person. I never got comfortable with social media and the content is stored, can be viewed or saved. It's a no for me. 0 LikesSarah posted January 8, 2022
I find the thought of random strangers creepily going through my photos very disturbing. Therefore, I do not post my kids or anyone else in photos online, ever. If I wanted to put photos up of people, on social media, the socially correct thing to do would be to ask first, prior to posting. Children are too young to understand band give consent. To me, I feel that children are people too and must be respected and protected until they can protect themselves. Even if it is not any weird, compromising, or embarrassing photo, I wouldn't want that floating out there in the internet where it can last forever, be shared by people for weird purposes, etc. 0 Likes
