I'm pregnant and about to be a single mom. Any advice?

I’m pregnant with my first child and I’m going to be raising my daughter as a single mom. I’m really excited, but nervous to be raising her on my own. Any other single mamas out there who can give me some advice?

First of all, congratulations! I’m so excited for you. The biggest piece of advice I have for you is to remember that you’ve got this! You have made it through everything else you have ever conquered so far, and you will do the same with this. Take things day by day and always remember that even on days when you are having a tough time, you are showing your daughter what a mom is capable of. I don’t know how present your family is in your life, but if they are, having a child (especially as a single mother) can be an amazing to connect or reconnect with family. Don’t be afraid to lean on friends and family when you need support. They love you and they will be a huge support to you as a mommy! 0 Likes

There are lots of single mom Facebook groups and communities! Join a few, make some friends (even before your daughter is born), and they will feel like an entirely new family to you. That’s what I did! 0 Likes

My girlfriend is a single mom and I'm so incredibly proud of her all the time! She is the bravest girl I know and there isn't anything I wouldn't do for her and her little one. But I don't have any children and it's sometimes hard for me to relate to her all the time. So she found comfort in single mom online community groups, I believe she had joined WhatToExpect.com. On their Message Boards she found ways to chat with and become friends with other single moms who were going through it all with her. She was so grateful to have a support system of other single moms out there, and they even have play dates now so their kids are friends too! 0 Likes

I find that reading mom blogs really helps me feel like I'm a part of a community and I'm not alone. One of my favorites is probably the 5 Mins for Mom blog. Those women are amazing. It's a lifesaver. 0 Likes

Grats + You can do it! + You're so brave! + Find backup help. It is really important to find a care provider that you can trust, but also find someone who can help you get your kiddo to that care provider if you're too sick or held up at work or whatever else. Reach out for help and get that network established early. Make friends with the other parents that are at your kiddos daycare, so you are aware what is going on, and also so you have some help in an emergency. Good luck! 0 Likes
