I have been a certified swim teacher at Salem Gymnastics and swim for 2 years and was one of the main instructors. I taught different classes with a variety of ages and skill level through a graduated swim program. I worked with children between the ages of 3 and 16 years old in 30 minute classes. The main idea of the program was to teach water safety and help children gain comfortability and confidence when in, and around water. In my “Mommy and Me” classes, I worked with parents and their 3 month- 3 year old baby in the water. We sang lots of fun songs that encouraged the babies to grow a love for the water. I worked to be comforting, adaptable, energized and encouraging when I taught. I learned to adjust activities based on the baby’s physical or mental obstacles, as well as the initially apprehensive parents.
