How long do you let your baby cry before picking them up?

Who else is struggling with this? Do I use the cry it out method for sleep training? What works? Help!!

I hear you!! It’s not easy, but just remember it’s probably harder on you than it is on your little one. If your baby is <6 months then don’t worry about sleep training quite yet, but if you’re in the thick of it, hang in there! Night by night, it'll get better. 0 Likes

I know people swear by it and it works for a lot of infants, it did NOT work for mine. The CIO may simpoly just not be for you and that's totally OK 😊 0 Likes

Cio worked for us, but I know it's different for every baby. When he went through his 4 month regression, he wouldn't sleep for more than an hour, two at most. He was still sleeping in our room. We moved him to his own room and did cio. It makes you feel like a horrible parent and nobody likes to hear their baby cry, but after two nights, he slept from 7pm-6:30 am every day since (he's now 19 months). He doesn't wake up in the middle of the night, just sleeps through. Again, every baby is going to be different but it worked for us. 1 Like

I used different method which didn’t work! Finally I had to terminate my contract since my daycare’s routine was totally out of control and it was not fair with other kids!! Babies always cry!😔 1 Like

Setting the mood for sleep is hard especially when you’re wide awake as the adult. Turn everything off and let your child know when it’s dark it’s time to lay down and sleep. For afternoon naps, sleep must take place everyday at the same time following the same action. This will prepare your little one for sleep when it’s time. 0 Likes

We actually have not sleep trained my 6mo son at all. Before he was born, I was very set on sleep training but began to read more about attachment parenting and understanding self soothing, falling asleep, and sleeping through the night as developmental milestones rather than skills to be taught. As a new mom, I have found it a wonderful tool to build my relationship with my son by nurturing his body's natural intuitions and responding to his needs in a way that feels organic to both of us. We transitioned him into his own room at four months, and now at six months he is sleeping through the night. I would encourage you to listen to your little one and tune out everyone else's opinions! 0 Likes

I wish I could offer you hope but my son just turned 2 and has not slept through the night. Crying it out backfired for us. If I could go back to 6 months I would have hired a sleep coach!!! 0 Likes

It depends on what led to the crying. If the child is hurt then right away help them out! I don’t believe in the crying it out since crying becomes a form of communication. You don’t want your baby to be hungry, dirty, cold or sleepy. Make your child comfortable and set up a routine your baby will thrive and there will be less crying. You want your baby to trust that you will be there no matter what. There certain development stages in which your baby will cry if you leave the room and this is normal since the don’t know if you will come back. 0 Likes

We were in a similar situation. Sleep training has helped us a TON. Our Pediatrician said that it is completely safe to let the baby cry for up to 3 hours. It took our daughter exactly 4 days before she started sleeping for 8 hours straight. Only tip is to ensure that you are not in the room with her. It is ok to go and check on her in regular intervals while increasing the period between your check-in's (5 mins, 15 mins, 30 mins, 50 mins, etc.). 0 Likes
