Have you tried the detergent and food coloring experiment (pie pan/paper plate of milk, drop of 2 different food coloring colors on opposite sides of plate in the milk, dip a toothpick in (I think it’s fabric softener) and touch toothpick to center of plate. Colors will mix all by themselves! Might even be able to gently dip paper into the milk and hang to dry for art pieces.

Good for slightly older kids, but non-toxic so good for any kid who can focus/not make messes.

More ideas:
-Make gak/slime/custom playdoh
-Experiment showing the different density of liquids (oil, and water, syrup, detergent etc.)
-Magnifying glass to look at things in nature up close/then draw it.
-Make Plaster monsters (week long project)
Show and tell favorite book
-Upcycle project from what would have been trash.
-Write nice letters to veterans/care workers/teachers/police etc.
-Crayon angels (kids lay on giant paper and make ‘snow angels’ holding crayons
3 legged race around the backyard
Teach cooking basics like how salt or heat effects food like chemistry.
Watercolor paints with added salt crystals (science!)

Also the kids show Creative Galaxy has lots of fun ideas.

If you decide to take your children on neighborhood walks (MAKE SURE THEY ARE WEARING PROPER GEAR GLOVES MASK ETC) and have them help water the plants and flowers outside. Then they can come inside and do a fun activity where they can grow plants inside of a ziplock bag. There are plenty of examples and instructions online. Choose the one you see best. 0 Likes

It’s best to do it on Friday so when they return on Monday they can see some sprouting beginning. Have them record their observations everyday (drawing or writing) 0 Likes

Make lava lamps ... Simply put 2/3 oil 1/3 water food coloring into Alka-Seltzer tablets, and watch the colors bubble. And the kids absolutely love it 0 Likes

Or teach them about gravity utilizing pendulum painting. Simply get a dowel rod placed across two chairs with a long string and a paper cone or paper cup, put paint in the paper cup and let them take turns slowly swinging the pendulum back-and-forth a crossed a huge piece of butcher block paper to create an abstract painting and explain about how gravity pulls the Pendulum from up to down and side to side. And later when it’s dry you can hang their masterpiece and have each of them sign it . 0 Likes

And cooking is always great. Learning to read the directions, taking turns, learning measurements, and then using patience while they have to wait for their reward to cook so that they can eat what they’ve created when it’s done 0 Likes

I also got a hydroponic garden and let the students grow lettuce and tomatoes. They’ve had a blast watching them grow every day and being able to eat the lettuce that they grew for their salads 0 Likes

Oh and one final thought. With Covid being out there, I have greatly restricted my access to the public for the most part and have been ordering most things in bulk from Amazon. With that said I’ve had numerous large boxes coming through weekly. So we’ve been utilizing them and making box tunnels, houses, and even painting boxes up as small race cars and having them race around the room in competition cheering each other on 0 Likes
