Addison D.
Nanny in Wilmington, NC
To Whom It May Concern:
I am seeking employment working with children. I enjoy working with children with disabilities including behavior and autism disorders, but also with all children from pre-school through 5th grade. My experience includes three years in Special Education classrooms, and because of multiple moves to different states, I have worked in four different schools. Most recently, I was privileged to work as a co-teacher in a Waldorf inspired preschool in Austin TX for several months. It was a great experience because it opened my perspective to different possibilities in engaging children in the learning process. I have found my work experiences to be personally rewarding. I recently moved to Wilmington with my husband to be closer to his parents who are aging, and we expect to make Wilmington our home for many years.
I discovered my passion while working at the Anova Center for Education, a non-public school for children with Autism, located in Santa Rosa, CA. I found my niche there, and discovered I truly enjoyed working with children with disabilities. The work is challenging but also rewarding, and I learned so much from the teacher I was assigned to provide assistance.
I have completed 65 college credits of general education courses at Sonoma State University in California, and I also took one 3 credit history course at Texas A&M San Antonio. Before leaving Texas, I completed a 40 hour Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) Module Training, but I have not taken the exam due to the need to be sponsored by a BCBA. My goal is to someday complete the coursework and certification requirements to become a BCBA.
Prior to working with schools, I worked as a One-to-One Support Provider for Lifehouse Agency, mostly working with a 24-year-old woman with Autism, who was somewhat high functioning, but was unable to live independently. I also filled in for other clients as needed and have worked with many adults with various disabilities. During my assignments, I assisted clients with medication administration, implementation of behavioral support plans, nutritional plans, day to day life skills, daily activities, along with any other ancillary service recommendations.
I understand the importance of hard work, honesty and dependability. I am very willing to learn to enhance my skills. I am comfortable interacting with others and understand the importance of collaborative work in defining optimal solutions for the clients/students that I serve. If hired, I will be dependable, on time, helpful, and kind to clients/students/ancillary staff while working diligently to achieve high expectations towards defined goals.
I am a dedicated and hard working person, and embrace challenges. I am very interested in a position and welcome the opportunity to speak with you about my qualifications. I may be reached at 575-937-3342
I have some college. I am a year out from finishing my bachelor’s in in special education.
