Imani Star Family Childcare
Daycare in Seattle, WA
Hi! I’m so excited to introduce our licensed childcare program to the community. My husband and I have both worked in childcare for over twenty years, and our school truly reflects the passion and experience we’ve gathered along the way. I got my start as a nanny while studying Social Work and Child Development at Seattle University. After graduation, I joined the Peace Corps in Dominica, where I was tasked with helping build a community-based preschool program. It was there that I met my husband, who shared the same heart for children and early education.
When we returned to Seattle, we both worked at a large corporate childcare center, which gave us even more experience in supporting children at all stages of development. In 2013, we opened our own small school in the Admiral District, and by 2022 we were able to move into the beautiful, permanent home we’re in today. With a spacious yard for outdoor play, chickens to care for, and a garden where we grow some of our own food, the children here learn through real-life experiences every day. Indoors, our large kitchen invites children to help prepare snacks and meals (included in tuition), giving them hands-on opportunities to build independence and confidence.
Because we’ve spent decades in this field, we know how important it is for children to be surrounded by consistency, love, and long-lasting connections. Many of our children grow up in our program from infancy through preschool, building bonds with caregivers who know them deeply and celebrate every step of their journey. Our philosophy blends structure with flexibility: we follow a rhythm to give children security, but also honor their need to simply enjoy being kids. Through play, projects, and relationships, children develop creativity, executive functioning skills, and—most importantly—emotional intelligence.
We’re also lucky to have a team that feels like family. My husband works for us part time and brings experience and a steady, caring presence. Our lead teacher, who has been part of our school for 7 years, provides warmth and consistency the children look forward to each day. Our newest teacher brings the gift of Spanish language skills, giving the kids the chance to hear and explore a second language in a fun and natural way. Together, our team is committed to making every child feel seen, celebrated, and supported.
At the heart of it all, we believe childhood should feel magical. This is their one and only childhood, and we want it to be full of laughter, learning, and love. If you’d like to learn more, we currently have an opening for an infant through preschool spot and would be happy to share more details, including our parent handbook. We can’t wait to welcome your family into our circle of care!

Hi! I wanted to take a moment to introduce our Licensed childcare to the community. In 2006, I graduated from Seattle U with a Bachelors Degree in Social Work and a Minor in Child Development. From there, I went straight to the Peace Corps in the Caribbean Island of Dominica. In Dominica I had the pleasure to do grant writing with a community organization which helped open a preschool. During my work there I saw a way for children to learn through amazing life experiences. The children were happy, smart and emotionally intelligent. It became my husband’s and my mission to replicate that experience here.
In 2013 our school’s story began. We opened as a small school in the Admiral District. Then in 2020 we purchased the space we are in now specifically for our school. The large spacious yard allows us to spend most of our time outside, the extra space beyond our play yard lets the children learn about chickens and provides our eggs. It also gives us a chance to grow some of the food we serve. Our large kitchen lets the children help prepare their own snacks and meals which are included in the tuition.
We follow a schedule but also offer flexibility for the children to enjoy being a child. We recognize that this is their only childhood and want to make it the most magical experience we can provide.
Our children are emotionally intelligent, and learn to be part of a a community which is something so important at this age. The children here have the tools to develop creativity and executive functioning skills through play and projects. Our teachers are extremely patient, knowledgeable and caring. If you are interested in learning more we do have a spot open for an infant through preschool student. I would be happy to provide you with more logistical information through messenger and our parent handbook.
We were so fortunate to find Annie and gain a spot in her daycare when our son was just 3 months old. Our son has thrived in her care, as her play-based, positive approach has been ideal for him. Our son often asks if it is a "school day" or a "home day", and his face lights up...Read more
