I've had the wonderful opportunity to work with various families in child care for much of my life. I started by being a Mommy and Me helper where I helped the moms (and dads) in my neighborhood with watching their kids while they were at home catching up on work and household chores. After a year or two of doing that, I moved up to babysitting and spent 8 years watching kids as young as 6 months up to 11 years old. The largest group I ever babysat was 8+ kids compared to the smallest group I have watched which was 2 kids.
Once I started coming home from college I became a nanny for a family. This family had two kids (my first summer they were 5 and 7, my second summer they were 6 and 8). While being their nanny I created activities centered around a central theme (ex: pirates, under the sea, Harry Potter). I encouraged doing educational activities like workbooks, reading, and physical 'sports'. Another major part of my role was to be transportation for summer camps and other activities the kids were doing.
I am in my last year of getting my special education (K-12th) and elementary education (K-8th) degree at Western Washington University.
