I've been caring for kids for over 30 years — I ran my own in-home daycare with a mix of infants and toddlers, taught preschool, and have worked as a nanny for families ever since, with kids ranging from newborns to teenagers.

Most recently, I spent three years as a full-time nanny and house manager for a family with two boys, where I also homeschooled them — running their curriculum, coordinating with their co-op two days a week, keeping on top of assignments and projects, and managing field trips. I built a chore system the kids checked off daily, cooked dinner every night, and when the parents traveled for business, I ran the household solo for up to five days at a time, kids and all.

I love getting kids out into the world doing things they wouldn't normally do. With those boys, we went roller skating together, biking, and hiking, did scavenger hunts around town with an app, and I introduced them to horses. We go to gingerbread house competitions around the holidays and found this amazing little pastry donut spot that became one of our favorites. I also cleaned up their diets quite a bit and got the youngest one — who'd been a really picky eater — trying and enjoying a lot more foods.

My biggest thing is: I don't do for a child what they can do for themselves. I call it letting them "handle their business." It sounds small — a toddler putting away one toy before getting out the next — but that's actually where self-esteem comes from. Not only from being told they're great, but from actually being capable. Kids who handle their own stuff don't grow up entitled, and by the time they're teenagers, they're genuinely responsible — because they've had years of real practice.

Beyond that, I'm playful, silly, and pretty fun to be around — but I also believe in kind, non-punitive discipline. Kids feel safe with me and still know exactly where the line is.
