The philosophy at Connie's Childcare is to develop the building blocks of learning and social/emotional development in young children and to do this in a safe, nurturing, and fun environment. I strive to instill self-values such as respect, patience, reverence, and understanding through play, music, and language. I also strive to prepare each child to succeed at an educational level by establishing a daily routine of free play, circle time, and daily group and individual activities. I use a weekly curriculum with a specific unit/theme. In accordance with this unit we will do activities, projects, games, books, music, etc. that are related to the unit. I also focus daily on school readiness skills such as Ietters, numbers, shapes, colors, etc. through play, music, and games, as opposed to worksheets and flash cards. I also feel that physical activity is very important in a child's development. It is a valuable learning tool for children to practice the social and emotional skills that they will need as they grow and develop. I incorporate daily physical activity in a number of ways including gardening (we have a daycare garden), nature walks (I live right on a walking trail), trips to the park, just playing outside, and playing outside together while participating in group games (tag, red light/green light, etc.) In conclusion, it is my goal to incorporate all aspects of learning, development, and activities in a safe and educational environment for each child in my care.
