Profile

My name is Neslihan (Nes) Tunay. I am 51 years old. I am a naturalized American citizen. I am married and have a 21 year old son. I live with my husband and with my lovely dog in the Pablo Bay area in Jacksonville. We moved from Boston in January 2022. We are a very active, happy, healthy family. We like biking, hiking, skiing, kayaking and recently we learned playing pickleball - we like it a lot. My husband is the CFO a commercial real estate company in Jacksonville. We love our dog Zoe a lot. She is a 6 years old Vizsla. She is a very active, smart and well behaved dog. She is part of our family.
I am energetic, healthy, cheerful and well-organized. I love dancing. I was part of the Collage Dance Ensemble for 10 years in Boston. I still work as a project manager for the non-profit organization Bridge To Turkey, which provides educational opportunities to girls who need financial support.
My education and early career in Turkey and Dubai was in the hospitality industry. In my last role I was Manager of Guest Relations of a five-star resort hotel. After I moved to US twelve years ago with my son, I taught Turkish to toddlers in a non-profit organization that is supported by MIT in Boston. My work with toddlers and my experiences led me to pursue a formal education in childhood education. I got my Early
Childhood Education certificate from Mass Bay Community College in Wellesley, MA after which I worked as a nanny in the Boston area for three years. The name of the 6 month old boy that cared for is Olli. Many parents from the Turkish language school wanted me to open my own day care center. Since I and my family had decided to move to Florida eventually, I could not commit to such a long-term engagement.
When I interact with parents and teach toddlers, I know that it is a longer-term commitment and the start of an enduring relationship with families. I am still in close contact with the families of my toddlers from the Turkish school. I love to see them grow, vocalize their first words, start kindergarten and elementary school and thereafter take their first steps in a long education journey. I get excited when I receive their Christmas cards every year; their beautiful pictures with their families... I get great fulfillment when I think that I might have had a small, slight, tiny impact on their life- long journey. And I feel proud to think that I have contributed to the development of smart, emotionally strong, culturally diverse and creative children.
I was fortunate to take care of Olli. He was such a smart, lovely baby. We got along very well. I had a friendly relationship with his parents as well. Sometimes Olli wanted to stay in our house and we welcomed him in our household. He used to call my husband granddaddy. :) Olli would bring his puzzles to work on them with my husband. I was very sad to part with him when we decided to leave Boston. I miss him a lot. But we always kept in touch with FaceTime calls, video messages and such. As we are in our log cabin in New Hampshire now for a vacation with my husband, we are very excited that Olli and his family are going to visit us this weekend.
My family home was impactful in my own development. I was very fortunate that I was raised in a well- educated, loving, caring, outgoing, musical family. My mother was a dermatologist and my dad was a government administrator. They were happily married for 50 years. They have always been respectful to each other and seeing them how they love each other and cared for me and my sister made me a better person and prepared me as a better mom. My son is a very social, calm, loving and happy young man. He is studying marine biology in a college in Maine.
I have extended family in Turkey. I have grown up with many cousins, nieces, nephews, uncles and aunts. Family get togethers are the biggest source of excitement and fun for me and my sister. Our extended family always got together at my parents’ summer house. Not only we had the joy of taking care of our younger nieces and
nephews, we also had the enjoyment of being with our uncles and aunts. I used to work with them in the kitchen, cook family feasts, learn family recipes, and go to the beach and play family games altogether. My mom has always been a source of inspiration for me. I have seen her treat her patients when she was actively practicing, and in her retirement years I have observed her as the master of ceremonies in our neighborhood association events during national holidays and special days. She had such a lovely touch to everything, a healing hand and a great attitude that made an impact on everyone she interacted with.
Growing up in a large and loving family taught me how to be good with people and how to be calm and assuring in difficult situations and quick on my feet with demanding people. I also discovered that I love to be around children of all ages. Caring for them, teaching them and giving them guidance and seeing them grow is a great source of happiness for me.
I always loved babies. "You were born to be a mother” says my husband all the time. I had one son but I wish I could have 10 :)) I love hugging them. I love their baby scent, their smiles and giggles. Knowing that they need me makes me feel complete. I like being a nanny because I like making impact on their early lives. If you
give me the opportunity to take care of your babies, you can trust me to care for them as if my own.
Sincerelly, Nes Tunay
