I don't have formal experience aside from what I did in college as my experience is mostly personal. I always treat kids with respect and value their input. I have learned that treating the kids as "little adults" has helped provide them with a better understanding of their surroundings that they would otherwise struggle to comprehend. I explain the concepts and break them down so that the kids will be better able to absorb the information and understand it. I also take into consideration their feelings and assist them to express them in a healthy manner when they are struggling to express themselves. When I make a decision that is against their wishes, I explain to them the reasoning behind it so that they don't feel excluded or isolated. I don't talk down to them or make decisions without their consideration as I want to make sure the kids feel safe, comfortable, heard, and understood so that they can focus on having fun and being their best selves!
