Colossian J.
I started caring for children when I, myself, was a child. I am 7 and 11 years older than my younger siblings and as the oldest daughter in a rural household, did much of the childcare, cleaning, and cooking for my family. At 13 I started babysitting and at 14 I moved in with my cousin and helped her care for her infant and toddler sons. I stayed with them for 2 years. At 18, I went and worked for Federal Way Public Schools. I ran tutoring groups during the school day, and after school program 4 days a week, and provided care during an english learning program for parents. After FWPS, I went and worked for Children Northwest, which was a preschool and daycare program. I worked with infants, wobblers, toddlers, preschoolers and school aged children. From there, I worked as a Nanny independently and through Portland Nanny. In 2020, I was an Au Pair in Germany. I truthfully enjoy working with every age group. I think of children as people and enjoy forming a relationship with them and watching them grow into
themselves. There are joys in working with every age. Babies, and their tender nature, toddlers and their curiosity, young children developing their communication skills and learning of others perspectives, and school aged children with a rapidly expanding knowledge of the world. Through my daycare work, I was certified in STARS Basic 30, FIND Serve and Return and Safe Sleep. Through FWPS I received cultural competency training, trauma informed care strategies, and became adept at lesson planning.
In college, I have taken classes in developmental psychology.
STARS Basic 30, FIND Serve and Return, Safe Sleep, ACES, college level developmental studies courses.
