Alisa J.
I have two younger siblings who are now 12 and 10 turning 11, I’ve helped take care of them since the youngest was about 6 months old. With them being so close in age I bet you can imagine how chaotic they could have been at times but my parents have always commended me for the good help I’ve given with both of them. I’ve been around young kids most of my life since I am the oldest in my generation so I’ve seen and partook in childcare for as long as I can remember. I’ve also helped at the daycare that me and my siblings went to when we were younger since I was the oldest child there. That was mostly just me helping in the kitchen and the classroom that they had for the bigger kids. I’ve officially worked at a daycare during the summer of 2021, there the ages ranged from 4mo to school aged children. I started of in the infant rooms(4mo-24mo) before I was moved to the toddler room(24mo-36mo). In the infant rooms each infant had their own feeding schedule that we had to abide by, kids that had been weaned off of formula ate at regular times(breakfast at 8, lunch at 11:30 with nap right after then snack at 3). We helped the kids in the infant rooms learn to to play nice with others and learn basic words such as (food, drink, please, thank you, etc.). Diaper changes were in a regular schedule around the clock, they got checked when the kids were dropped off then if changed they got changed again or checked every hour along with being checked and changed before pick up(these rules were applied in the toddler room as well). Within the toddler room I was required to help them learn basic colors, the alphabet and basic listening skills(getting in line quietly, cleaning up, manners, etc.). Each room did have a tv in them but I only ever put on shows such as Blippy, Ms. Rachael, Sesame Street and any PBS kids shows I could find. Overall I have more unofficial childcare experience than official but to experience is experience and I know my capabilities.
I am 18 turning 19 in September so I only have a High School Diploma. I did however work at a daycare(New Beginnings Child Care Center) the summer following my graduation and they require employees to take an online certification course, I don’t fully know the exact name of the certification but I do know the questions ranged from newborn care to toddler emotional development and actions.
