Ninety percent of brain development occurs by age by age five. This shows the critical importance of the early childhood years on a child's development. It also shows that the time children spend in my care is extremely valuable. Early childhood is a unique time in life that deserves respect from educators as well as families. I believe that child care should be much more than a place where children come to wait out their days until their parents finish working. I strive to make my program an exciting, dynamic place where children love to spend their time. I believe strongly in the value of learning through play. I have designed my child care program around this belief. I allow plenty of time for active exploration in all areas of my program designated for children's use. I have several learning centers and the children are encouraged to explore on their own or with their friends. I change the content of my learning centers periodically to keep them interesting and to accent different areas of learning. I base the contents of my learning centers, on the early indicators of progress, Minnesota's early learning standards. I have a good routine in our day that allows plenty of time for both child directed and provider directed activities. I believe the importance of always remembering what is developmentally appropriate for each child in my program. Just because two children are the same age doesn't mean they are the same developmentally. Every child is unique and is treated as such in my program. I believe that families are integral part of a child's development and should be included in all early childhood programs as much as possible. When providers work together with families, a team is created for the ultimate benefit of the child. This will result in better relationship but also a better outcome for the child in all areas of development. I love my job and can't imagine doing anything else. I am committed in helping each and every child in my care succeed.
