Honey Bee Family Childcare Daycare
Welcome to Our Ohana Center! We’re a family child care home in Columbia, MD, specializing in the care of infants, toddlers, and twos. Our program is designed with flexibility in mind, offering full-time enrollment, last-minute care, healthy meals, engaging educational activities, and even potty training support.
At Ohana, we’re much more than just a daycare—we’re a family! We care for each child as if they were our own, creating a warm, stimulating environment where children from all backgrounds can play, learn, and grow together.
Our teaching philosophy is inspired by both Montessori and Reggio Emilia approaches, with a strong belief in following the interests of each child. We use a play-based curriculum that covers all domains of learning, allowing children to develop their curiosity and build their competence naturally. Through open-ended, intentionally designed activities, we encourage children to explore concepts and engage with the world around them in their own unique ways.
Social-emotional learning is at the heart of what we do. We focus on helping kids develop emotional intelligence, build relationships, and navigate their feelings, setting them up for success in school and in life. At Ohana, we create a safe, supportive space where children can express themselves, develop empathy, and form meaningful connections.
At Ohana, we’re the village that supports parents every step of the way, providing not just exceptional care but also resources and encouragement to lighten your load and ensure your child thrives. Together, we build a loving and nurturing environment for children and parents alike.
Hi there! I’m Alexis, though most people lovingly call me ‘Auntie Lexie.’ With over 13 years of experience as a teacher, reading tutor, and Child Care Center Director, I’ve developed a deep passion for nurturing children. I hold an MSDE credential level 4, a Bachelor’s from American University, and I’m currently pursuing a Certificate in Early Education Leadership from Harvard University Graduate School of Education. What truly drives me is my passion for caring for and teaching children.
Certified in First Aid, CPR, and Early Childhood Education, I take great care in creating activities that are just right for each child’s age and stage, sparking their curiosity and love for learning. My goal is to create a nurturing space where every child feels excited, supported, and ready to grow.
At our Ohana Center, we’ve created a loving home daycare that sparks curiosity, inspires creativity, and nurtures learning—all within a safe, comforting environment for your little one. We offer a variety of engaging spaces, including indoor and outdoor play areas, learning centers, a music and art corner for budding artists, and a cozy reading nook where imaginations can soar. Plus, for your convenience and peace of mind, we have dedicated parking to make drop-offs and pick-ups a breeze.
We’re located in the heart of Columbia, in a peaceful, family-friendly neighborhood, and we’re just around the corner from Blandair Park, Jeffers Hill Elementary School, and the East Columbia Library. We love taking the kids on outings to these spots, giving them a chance to explore the community, expand their learning, and enjoy new and exciting experiences. We’re committed to creating a joyful, supportive environment where both children and parents feel right at home.
