The Learning Leaf Daycare
I believe all children can learn, all children deserve respect and to be treated well. I believe children learn through play as well as fun learning activities. The provider/teacher should keep the child's interests in mind when planning what to do. It is important to start where the child is at and go from there. My number one goal is for the children to feel good about themselves. Also, respecting others and themselves is important.I'm a licensed social worker as well as a licensed day care provider. In addition to my social work degree, I also have a strong concentration in art. I worked as a school social worker too. I am a parent of 2 children and 2 bonus children. I believe all of this has given me a unique perspective on teaching and interacting with kids. I love teaching the kids and learn from them as well. We often learn together. For example, if we find a bug outside we don't know what it is we will research it. We may even do an art project and learn more. I believe not only do kids need the academic skills for school readiness but equally important are the social skills/friendship skills. If a child struggles to get along with others it will make it more difficult to learn. I use Creative Curriculum for Family Day Care.I used the Red Leaf Development Curriculum Development Assessment One unique aspect of my day care is that I and another provider created a slide show using zoo phonics one with music and one without. (Inspired by another teacher's version). I have also been a part of Face Book group Zoo Phonics Teachers (which includes the creator of zoo phonics). In the past, I have shared art projects and other learning activities on there that were done at my day care. I also add my own stuff from Teachers Pay Teachers, Pinterest, ideas from other provider teaching groups, etc. The kids and I have a lot of fun. I have a fenced in play area with unique playground equipment LIfetime ATV Spring Rider Bouncer and Lifetime Ace Teeter-Totter. Also, a Step 2 Clubhouse Climber, playhouse, ride on toys etc.. I have horse stall mats underneath the equipment and in the play area. I am also definitely a kid at heart. I have a website also: juliescreativekids@weebly.com as well as a Face Book page for my day care: Julie's Creative Kids.
