We are a play based program and we believe that childhood is a time for hands on learning, exploration and discovery about their world, themselves and their peers. We try to spend as much time as we can outdoors exploring the campus. We follow an emergent curriculum where the interests of the child are the focus. With multi age group between the ages of 1-5, we have many opportunities to work on social skills and foster caring and empathy in children! They really are like siblings and a little family!We hold true the National Association of Young Children ( NAEYC) Code of Ethics statement that states early childhood education has an ethical responsibility to young children. It affirms that Childhood is a unique and valuable stage in the human life cycle and we commit to supporting children's individual and unique development, respecting differences, and helping children to live, play and work cooperativelyWe are inspired by the schools of Reggio Emilia, ItalyWe see the students and teachers as Co- learners- Loose parts/Open ended materials available to the children in the classroom are there to facilitate new ideas, problem solving and learning.Our role is not to solve problems but to facilitate and build social skills and interactions between the children.Children learn through hands on concrete ways, with all of their senses.We believe in long periods of time to work and play to allow children to engage in depth.Long periods of play actually changes the structure of the developing brain in important ways, strengthening the connections of the neurons (nerve cells) in the prefrontal cortex, the area of the brain considered to be the executive control center responsible for solving problems, making plans and regulating emotions.It is for this reason, we allow children to choose their own activities, and even request an activity from the previous day. Our routine is fluid and flexible- if the children are engaged, we may take into consideration the learning going on and be flexible with the needs of the children.
