Profile

I have chosen the nanny profession because it allows me to get to know the children on a personal level. My college degree is in Child Advocacy and Policy with a Minor in Social Work. When working in the foster care and the child welfare field, the professionals and/or guardians opinions seemed to matter more than the children. There was very little engagement with the children. Fortunately for me one of the positions I held was a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA). The responsibilities of a CASA worker was to be a liaison between the child/children and the professionals. I would go into foster homes and speak with the children directly. Our conversations consisted of them telling me about school, if they liked where they were staying, asking questions about their relationship with their foster parents and even their hobbies! I fell in love with the child’s side of the story in a system ran by adults. I am thankful for that opportunity because it allowed me to see how unheard children felt and showed me the importance of listening to them. This is why I have chosen to be a nanny! I am here to listen and be somewhat of a copilot as the children navigate through different life experiences. Being a nanny allows me to be apart of their growth, hard times, good times, school, hobbies, sports, etc.! I can also build a relationship with the parents and truly be apart of the village raising the child!
As a nanny I able to incorporate all of my childcare experience. I have been a daycare teacher (ages 0-2), after school program director/tutor (Ages 5 - 18), sports coach (cheer), piano teacher (Age 4-10), and youth mentor. I also held a position of a Mother's Helper where I helped foster and biological parents clean, organize and maintain routines within the home. As a nanny I am able to put all of the skills I've learned and love into one home!
