At Bee's Knees, I cherish the unique qualities of each child in my care. I have worked hard to build an atmosphere of patience, creativity, resourcefulness, resilience and respect. Independent play and imagination are highly regarded - as creativity stems from a desire to challenge one's self. I aim to make each child comfortable in my home while challenging each mind in preparation for school and adulthood. Self-regulation, perseverance, empathy, and curiosity are valued and fostered in my care. Manners are important to me and always used and taught. I love the magic of a good story shared out loud, and we ready together every day. The children use their senses as they observe and experience nature in our large backyard. We frequently sort, count and classify objects in our everyday atmosphere. We have a weekly music session in which the children participate with instruments, singing and dancing; we also enjoy classical, jazz, kids songs, nature sounds, world music, etc. from time to time in our environment as we play. I recently added yoga to our program, and the kids have very much enjoyed this. At the end of each yoga session they sing a little song that goes: "from my little lighthouse to your little lighthouse, Namaste". Namaste means the spirit (or light) in me recognizes the spirit (or light) in you, and I feel that this is very representative of the atmosphere I try to create in my home.
