Desiree O.
Babysitter in Burbank, CA
Since I was a child, everyone has always said how great I was with kids. I did a lot of babysitting in middle and high school, but my interests never laid in child care.
I did watch a teenager briefly when I moved out to California; great kid, didn’t take a lot of work, just around to help with snacks and dinner after school, light homework, in bed on time, etc. I loved it, but I also needed a real, full time job with insurance benefits. Recently I’d been helping my roommate out with watching her son on my days off when she needed to work and I remembered how much I loved seeing the world through children’s eyes and being able to help them problem solve or sort through a personal issues in creative ways. I also had a customer in my showroom comment about how naturally I got his kid to get his shoes on and accomplish what he had been trying to do with barely a though, and without his son protesting/crying. He said I was so great with kids and asked how many I had of my own and was shocked when I said none. I had already been considering getting into nannying, and this moment made me realize I was finally done with customer service (and helping people sleep well to live well) and was ready to help shape the children of tomorrow.
To this end, I am currently scheduled to start CPR and First Aid courses at Red Cross after the first of the year.
My mum always taught me to ask questions, be curious, and see the world from other’s shoes. I believe that has helped make me the inquisitive, intelligent, and thoughtful person I have become, and as I don’t see myself having my own children at this point, I’d love to be able to share the valuable lessons she taught me, while seeing the world anew again through children’s eyes.
I have a minor in Psychology, so no BS degree, however, my focus was in behavioral psychology and I took one specifically about child behavioral psychology.
